Therefore, a decanter with a long, narrow neck and slightly bowed base minimizes the oxygenation, preserving the bouquet while enhancing the wine's color. Higher-quality wines and fragile, older wines are best served using a decanting cradle. By holding the wine bottle in a semi-horizontal position, the wine and its sediment can be separated for serving.
