Decanting serves a very special purpose that allows the connoisseur and guests to enjoy fine wine at its very best. Aged and rich wines form natural deposits inside the bottle as a part of the maturation process. This natural sediment has a disagreeable taste and can ruin the pleasure of the fine wine. Decanting separates the aged wine from its sediment. Furthermore, after years in a bottle, decanting the wine allows the wine to absorb new oxygen in order to bring out the full flavor.

To decant properly a wine, slowly and gently pour the wine into the decanter. Do not lift the bottle bottom higher than decanter. The decanting process ends when the sediment appears in the neck of a bottle. A small candle can be helpful for illuminating the neck of the bottle.
